As an Instructor at IMC Wetherill Park we often get asked how to lose weight and people often expect a difficult answer in response but it’s not! It’s simple! Train hard consistently and complement that with a healthy diet.
Healthy Tip #1: Remember breakfast
Don’t forget breakfast this will give you the energy and nutrients to power through your morning. Picking healthy options such as wholegrain cereal (flakes, muesli, porridge) and light milk. Wholegrain toast with egg, some fresh fruit, and plenty of water. Be sure to check how much water your body type needs.
Healthy Tip #2: Seafood is good food
Aim to eat fish or seafood twice a week: fresh, frozen or canned is ok. Oily fish such as salmon, trout, sardines, herring and tuna are especially good for their higher levels of omega-3 fat content.
Healthy Tip #3: Cut the take-away
Limit the number of restaurant and take-away meals you eat as these are typically too large and contain too much salt, saturated fat and sugar, and not enough vegetables and fibre. This one’s simple, any restaurant with a drive through should be totally off limits.
Healthy Tip #4: Snack smart
If you need to snack and let’s be honest who doesn’t need a snack to get through the day, choose healthy options such as fruit (apple, orange or banana), unsalted nuts (almonds are great), milk or yoghurt, wholegrain bread or cracker. Vegetables such a carrot sticks or cherry tomatoes, or vegetable soup.
Healthy Tip #5: Water is best
Drink water to quench thirst. Avoid sugar sweetened drinks such as soft drinks because these will not, flavoured mineral waters, energy drinks, iced tea, frappes and sports drinks tend to have higher kilojoules with no nutrients.
Healthy Bonus Tip: Celebrations
We all know that there is no party without food and alcohol, but this is also when we may eat too much. Pace yourself and savour each mouthful to give your brain a chance to keep up with your stomach as you catch up on the conversation.
If you follow these basic tips on healthy eating you will see and feel changes within and those changes make you feel great but remember you need to complement healthy eating with consistent training and at IMC Wetherill park there’s no excuses with more than 30 classes a week your sure to find the one that fits your busy lifestyle.
